S&B at IFAT 2024 - Coanda classifier causes quite a stir

22.May 2024
“Sweepingly effective” is the slogan we use to promote our latest air classifier for separating materials in recycling and waste processing plants. The Coanda classifier, whose mode of operation is based on the effect of the same name, celebrated its successful world premiere at our trade fair stand at IFAT 2024. Every two years, manufacturers and service providers present their products for the water, sewage, waste and raw materials industries at the world's leading trade fair.

The last few weeks have been particularly busy for the employees of Schulz & Berger Luft- und Verfahrenstechnik GmbH. They have been working flat out on the new Coanda classifier and meticulously preparing the company's presence at this year's IFAT, the world's leading trade fair for environmental technologies. At the start of the trade fair on Monday, May 13, visitors to Munich were able to marvel at the new wind sifter at work for the first time.

The Schulz & Berger team had set up a wind sifter system in a compact trade fair format especially for this purpose. In this system, the Coanda classifier demonstrates the separation of films and other lightweight materials from mixed “yellow bag” waste. Further applications for other input materials are planned in the future. The special feature of the patented Coanda separator is its mode of operation based on the physical effect of the same name. Air then follows an adjacent surface at the right speed and pressure and pulls the surrounding air with it.

“Thanks to this effect, the Coanda classifier works particularly effectively and can be installed directly on existing conveyor belts in the sorting systems with little structural effort,” explains Dirk Barnstedt, Managing Director of Schulz & Berger. The feedback so far on this world first has been consistently positive: “Both major plant manufacturers and operating companies have told us that we have made exactly the right decision with the sifter. The areas of application open up new possibilities for the effective separation of heterogeneous material flows, especially for our customers,” continues Barnstedt.

Our summary of IFAT 2024 is consistently positive. “We were once again able to prove that German engineering in general and our air technology in particular can play a decisive role in a more sustainable, green future. I am really proud of this and of the performance of our employees, who have shown full commitment to this challenging market launch,” says Barnstedt.
