Air classifiers for precise recycling
The efficient and reliable technology embodied in S&B air classifiers is used for separating heterogeneous material flows especially in the recycling industry.
Product overviewThe principle of airstream sorting was already used hundreds of years ago, and is as simple as it is ingenious: Gravity and centrifugal forces cooperate to bring about the mechanical separation of lightweight and heavy materials.
To be able and employ this procedure with a high level of quality and repeatability for industrial purposes, it is important to achieve a perfect cooperation between most diverse factors. What wind speeds are required? How to conduct air and material flows? And how to integrate air classifiers into a complete system?
Our team will find the right answers to these questions for your project. This will enable us to ensure the efficient and economic operation of your plant. Thanks to the experience in air technology equipment we have gained over several decades, Schulz & Berger is your ideal partner for innovative and tailor-made solutions in the field of airstream sorting.

Why use S&B air classifiers?
Because we will take you to the finish line
Driven by our aspiration to harness the power of air as best as possible, we develop and build the best air classifiers. They impress users not only with their quality and performance but also with their long service lives and ease of maintenance.
Schulz & Berger know and understand the requirements plant builders and owners have in terms of separation technology. To help meeting these requirements, we can assist you with our technologies and know-how. The customized design of our classifiers according to the requirements guarantees not only that the specifications for their performance will be met but it also allows optimum integration into existing or newly built systems.
Coanda Classifier
Based on the Coanda effect, the latest S&B air classifier impresses with its unprecedented purity levels, extremely easy installation, and savings of space and energy.
Kidney classifier
Our bestselling and patented air classifiers are used to separate dry bulk goods preferably in the medium grain lines (50-350 mm) in the waste disposal industry.
Swivel plate classifier
Developed specifically for use in oversize grain lines (> 350 mm), Swivel plate classifiers are a reliable means for separating large-surface plastic films from material flows.
Blow-suction classifier
Blow-suction classifiers are suitable for medium grain lines (50-350 mm), and also have a setup and design which is simple yet effective in terms of both function and method of operation.
Step classifier
Powerful at separating bulk material in the fine grain lines (10-60 mm), Step classifiers are the alternative to Zig-zag classifiers.
Zig-zag classifier
When used for classifying in fine grain lines (10-60 mm), our Zig-zag classifiers impress with their optimum degree of selectivity.
Apex shaft classifier
Being the heavyweights among S&B's air classifiers, Apex shaft classifiers allow to deal with the highest throughput of materials in fine, medium and oversize grain lines (≥ 10 mm).

Frequently asked questions about air classifying
Depending on the classifier head and system design, grain sizes from 10 mm to 5000 mm can be classified. Large paint films that end up in the systems can be up to 5 m long. Separation into two or three different fractions is possible. We cannot separate the input material directly by grain size, only by weight.
Modern air classifiers from Schulz & Berger are characterized by their high performance. The throughput depends directly on the bulk density and the separation quality requirements. Maximum throughput rates of 30 tons/hour can be achieved with our apex shaft classifieres, for example.
All our air classifiers meet customer requirements for material separation. These are often in the range of 80 % output of light materials. With our patented kidney classifier, purity levels of 92 % can even be achieved.
